Flu is a common infectious illness spread by coughs and sneezes. It can be very unpleasant, but you’ll usually begin to feel better within about a week. However for young children, people aged over 65, people with long-term health conditions and pregnant women flu can be far more serious.
On 9th April 2017 the Parish Council proudly opened a new playground on The Green, Glapwell. The project was made possible with a cheque for £20,000 from the Derbyshire Environment Trust and also from money raised by local people at a number of events.
The New Playground is to open at the end of March 2017. You will have noticed that the old playground has been removed and work will start soon on building a new one. Here is a picture of how the new playground will look soon.
Members of Glapwell Sporting Association have decided that they are no longer in a position to manage the Football Ground. The representatives from Glapwell Football Club, Glapwell Gladiators and the Parish Council voted to disband the Association and to return the lease to the Parish Council with immediate effect.
Members of local sporting organisations in Glapwell are meeting with the Parish Council to explore the potential for a joint project to improve sporting facilities in the village.
Elections – The election for the Parish Council for the next 4 years was held on May 7th. Seven of the previous council stood for election and they were all appointed. This leaves 3 vacancies and the Council will be deciding how to recruit more people to work with the Council.
Glapwell Bonfire 100 – November the 4th saw the return of the bonfire and firework display at the Cricket Field where at least 1000 gathered to see the awesome fireworks display by Merlin Fireworks and put to music by Stewart Nicholson from Mansfield Radio.
Glapwell Carnival 2014 – Keeping with tradition from the Carnivals of the past, this year saw our first celebrity ‘Matthew Wolfenden’ to make an appearance at the Carnival.
